What to Know Before Your Tour
Please expand the sections below to read about each subject and what might be helpful to know before your visit.
Having lunch or dinner on campus is a great way for students to get a feel for college life. We can start or end your tour at some of our campus dining facilities for your convenience.
To eat in one of our campus dining halls, North Campus Diner or South Campus Dining Hall, prearrangements must be made by calling 301-314-8044 or emailing email@example.com. Please be aware that North Campus Diner is not in our standard tour route so we are unable to start or end your tour there. Prepaid dining cards for our buffet style diners can be purchased if your group pursues this option.
Your group can also eat at the food court in the Stamp Student Union. Prearrangements are not required to eat in this facility, but seating for large groups can be difficult to find.
Visit the dining website to look at the hours and menus of each location. Your group is also more than welcome to bring pre-packed meals and eat picnic style in any of our outdoor locations, the Stamp Student Union, or the indoor Visitor Center Front Porch (size and time dependent).
The University is proud of its tradition of making our own ice cream on campus. To try one of our original flavors, visit The Dairy now located in the Stamp Student Union. We can start or end your tour from the Stamp Student Union if you plan on visiting The Dairy with your group. To learn more information or to make arrangements for your group to have ice cream at The Dairy, call 301-405-1415.
Tours are rain or shine! If the weather is predicting rain during your tour and you do not want to visit, please email firstname.lastname@example.org immediately to let us know that you will not be attending so we can release our tour guides.
University policy requires us to cancel all school related events, including tours, when the University is closed due to inclement weather or other extenuating circumstances. It is your responsibility to check the operating status of the University on the University of Maryland homepage or the "snow phone line" 301-405-SNOW (7669) to determine if your tour is cancelled. If the University is opening late due to inclement weather or extenuating circumstances, tours will be cancelled if the University opens after the start time of the tour. Tours starting after the late opening time will not be cancelled. In the unlikely event this happens, we will do our best to reschedule your tour. Please understand that not all tours will be able to be rescheduled due to our tight schedule.
Please call 301-314-7777 to let us know if you're running late on your tour date so we do not release your guides. Due to our guides' busy course schedules, please be aware that your tour will be shortened by the amount of time that you are late. If you are more than 30 minutes late, the guides will conduct a Q&A session with your group in place of the tour and provide information for our Self Guided Tour Scavenger Hunt.
You may cancel a reservation by calling 301-314-7777 or emailing email@example.com. If you would like to make changes or reschedule your tour, please cancel and submit another tour request at least two weeks before your desired tour date. Please understand that rescheduled tours are not guaranteed even with a prior reservation, but we will do our best to find a time that works for your schedule.
Tours are rain or shine so please have your students bring weather appropriate clothing and accessories. We also suggest that students wear comfortable walking shoes since we will cover a good portion of campus during the tour. Water bottles are also highly encouraged.
If you are interested in booking a guided tour, please fill out a Guided Tour Request Form. The tour manager will respond to your request within seven days of submission when the University is open.
