Visitor Services Associate

Overview of Position

The Visitor Center welcomes prospective students and their parents, alumni, and all visitors who want to know more about the university. Visitor Center desks are located in the main center at Turner Hall and in the Administration Building lobby. Visitor Services Associates have an opportunity to make a first and lasting impression on campus guests. Visitor Services Associates provide visitors with directions, parking information, campus maps and Visitor Guides and answer questions about the University of Maryland and the surrounding community. Additionally, Visitor Services Associates assist with campus group visitations and provide tours for young school age groups, prospective and new graduate students, visiting scholars, summer conference groups and others.
Visitor Services Associates are required to wear a name tag and uniform shirt (Maryland shirt and pullover provided) and maintain a professional appearance at all times.
Competitive hourly compensation and flexible work schedule. Paid training provided.


Shifts of no less than two hours and no more than six hours on any given day are assigned based on availability and seniority among University Visitor Services Associates staff. The Visitor Center is open 8 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday and 9 am – 3 pm on Saturdays. The Main Administration desk is staffed 9 am – 4 pm Monday through Friday.

Visitor Services Associates must be personable, dependable, responsible, resourceful, genuinely concerned about our visitors’ needs, take pride in their appearance and in representing the University of Maryland to our many audiences of visitors. Extensive knowledge of the campus community and a general knowledge of the metropolitan area are vital.
